Partners in Growth… It’s How Wohlsen Works
Armstrong World Industries began as Armstrong Cork Company in a one-room workshop in Pittsburgh, PA where they hand carved bottle corks. Throughout the second half of the 19th century, Armstrong grew to become the largest cork supplier in the world. Ever industrious, the company expanded their product offerings to include corkboard, brick, and linoleum. These products were produced at their new facility in Lancaster, PA, where the company quickly grew to include several varieties of ceiling boards and flooring. Now part of the mixed-use development, Urban Place, the Wohlsen-constructed brick building still stands today.
1906 was just the beginning of the professional relationship between Wohlsen Construction and Armstrong. Wohlsen performed countless projects over the years for Armstrong as they grew to be an international industry leader. These projects ranged from small-scale renovations and maintenance to larger facility expansions, like the in-progress additions and renovations to the Marietta Ceiling Plant. We are proud of the history we share and relationship we have forged with Armstrong.
