Customized services, from preconstruction planning through post-construction assistance.
As a leading provider of construction services, Wohlsen has partnered with building owners and design professionals throughout the Mid-Atlantic States to deliver well-crafted, highly functional, award-winning projects for more than 120 years. Our team combines the benefits of technical expertise, passion for performance and outstanding attention to client satisfaction to deliver a full-range of construction services.
How it all began.
Herman Wohlsen left Germany in 1877 as a 16-year-old carpenter and settled in Central Pennsylvania where he began to apply his craft. In 1890, Herman started, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania what has grown to become Wohlsen Construction Company. Herman’s efficient manner and attention to quality is a legacy that flows through our company today. Building on its heritage, the current management has expanded Wohlsen Construction geographically to serve clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic States, always with the highest levels of quality and service.
A truly regional construction company.
Our ability to listen to our clients and adapt accordingly is a big reason Wohlsen is one of the leading merit shop construction firms in the Mid-Atlantic Region. With three full-service offices in two states, and active involvement in four different chapters of Associated Builders & Contractors, and we have established relationships with subcontractors in multiple marketplaces. As a result, we are able to ensure expanded bid coverage, thus delivering the best product at the best price for our clients.
Ethics in Business
Gary Langmuir, Wohlsen President, was named as the recipient of the 2008 Lancaster Samaritan Counseling Center’s Ethics in Business Award. The evaluation process is based on how candidates demonstrate five ethical principles of conduct: Integrity, Fairness & Justice, Stewardship, Life-Enhancing, and Transparency. The employees of Wohlsen share their pride in working for a company whose leader demonstrates ethics and integrity. Mr. Langmuir was quoted at the banquet as saying, “without ethics, you have nothing.”
We care very deeply for the communities in which we live and work.
In addition to supporting our local communities in various ways, Wohlsen encourages its employees to become active in various civic organizations by volunteering time, serving on boards and committees, and giving financially.
Wohlsen Crusaders: The Wohlsen Crusaders is our Relay For Life Team. As a dedicated group of employees out to fight cancer, it is our hope that a cure is not far away. From the annual bingo to sandwich sales, cancer awareness bracelets to flower bulbs, and everything in between, the Wohlsen Crusaders work very hard to raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society and the Lancaster Relay For Life.
Holiday Gift Giving: Each year Wohlsen participates in Holiday Gift Giving by selecting a local charity in need of assistance. Employees then contribute needed items (toys, clothing, etc.) or make monetary donations. Past organizations have included the Lancaster County Council of Churches, Nemours/Alfred I. du Pont Hospital for Children and Water Street Ministries.
Pedro's House: Pedro Toalo, a resident of Wilmington, Delaware, was injured in a violent crime leaving him paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. The Planning Factory of Wilmington, Delaware rallied supporters from the local community to provide labor and construction materials to renovate Mr. Toalo’s home to make it more accessible to him and his family. Wohlsen Construction is proud to have been one of those supporters.
