Topping Out Ceremony at Brandywine Living at Mahwah

Posted in: News on May 14, 2014

Wohlsen Construction Company, with an office in Parsippany, New Jersey, and Brandywine Senior Living, headquartered in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey recently celebrated the topping out of the Brandywine Living at Mahwah community.

Work on the 96-unit senior living facility which will offer assisted living, memory care and “Serenade by Brandywine’ service, is scheduled for completion in late fall of 2014.  Meyer Design located in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, designed the new facility to be LEED Certified.

The topping out ceremony is said to have originated in 621 B.C. when builders celebrated the completion of a bridge over the Tiber River, according to Gary Langmuir, president of Wohlsen Construction.

In the early 1900s workers in the United States began hoisting an evergreen tree, along with the American flag, to the highest piece of steel in a high rise, Langmuir said.

The celebration provided the attendees the opportunity to sign the truss before it was hoisted into place.

Wohlsen Construction Company, a Green Plus certified company, was founded in 1890 and is one of the leading merit shop construction firms in the Mid-Atlantic States.
