The Denver House, which served as a hotel and bar on the corner of Main Street downtown Denver, sat vacant and in a state of decay for years. REAL Life Community Services, a faith-based social services provider, recently purchased the site with plans to transform it into something that would not only spur development in the area, but would provide life-enriching services to the community.

On September 17, REAL’s plan was put into place as they celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for the site’s new building, The Declaration House, with construction manager Wohlsen Construction.

“We are honored and excited to be part of the team that builds your vision and sees the project through completion,” the project’s director Scott Goldman of Wohlsen Construction shared at the groundbreaking. “It will surely make a positive impact on the Denver Borough and surrounding community.”

This project will transform the blighted site into a 19,433-square-foot community hub, providing a variety of services and spurring future development in downtown Denver. The first phase includes the demolition of the existing building and will be followed by the construction of a new, three-story structure. The project is slated for completion in early summer of 2019.

Reminiscent of a century-old downtown building, Cornerstone Design Architects designed the Declaration House to blend with the historical townhomes that line Main Street. Once completed, the project will house a variety of community services as REAL Life Community Services’ company headquarters. The rehabilitated site will also house medical, dental, and behavioral health counseling services through Welsh Mountain Health Center and ten affordable apartments for low-income families through the Lancaster Housing Opportunity Partnership.
