Wohlsen Completes Renovations at Wesley Enhanced Living Main Line

Posted in: News on September 23, 2020

Construction at Wesley Enhanced Living Main Line started in April 2019 with all four areas of the facility receiving extensive reconstruction and renovation including asbestos abatement and a total removal and re-roofing project for the Community Center, the apartment buildings, the personal care facility, and the skilled nursing facility. All of the construction/renovation work occurred while the facility remained completely occupied.

Community Center

The transformation began with the complete demolition of the main entrance and construction of a new main lobby including a fully enclosed and conditioned pedestrian walkway for the residents.

A new Porte-cochere was constructed and became the entrance focal point for residents and guests. Many of the existing walls were removed to provide an open-air living room area and library in the front, while construction of the executive offices and other amenities such as a bank and post office occurred as part of the phased construction.

The main kitchen was completely raised, with a new concrete floor, followed by new tile, new kitchen equipment and a new HVAC and exhaust hood configuration. A fully functioning wet bar was added, along with a pub area that is situated next to the new open-air patio – The Terrace.

Finally, what was once a gym became the new auditorium. A piece of the gym floor was discovered showing the markings of an old hopscotch game. The “hopscotch” floor section was cleaned, framed, and is mounted on the wall next to the auditorium entrance as a project gift to Wesley.

Skilled Nursing Facility – The Meadows

Next, the renovation included the complete demolition and removal of the center core area of the facility to make room for a new living room and a spa area, complete with a state-of-the-art soaking tub.

Corridors were completely refurbished, and resident room interiors were gutted and renovated. A new nurse call system was added as well.

Independent Living Apartments

New Insulated ceilings were added in the apartment corridors as well as drywall lamination in all the building connectors. In addition, a new fire alarm system was installed and connected to the newly installed systems in all other areas of the campus.

Personal Care – The Pines

Similar to The Meadows, this facility required the complete removal of the core area and was replaced with a new dining room, satellite kitchen and pantry, a new cathedral ceiling in the gathering room, nursing offices, and a new nurse call system.

The Wohlsen project team included Bill Sahwell as Project Executive, Dave Vandegrift as Vice President of Preconstruction, Ron Fox as Director of Preconstruction, Bruce Reim as Preconstruction Manager, Eric Pearson as Senior Project Manager, Brad Suruskie as Superintendent, Marcel Djonodo-Elegbede as Carpenter, Patrick Marenco and Ana Collins as Project Engineers, Kim Stevenson as Project Assistant, Wesley Donahue as Safety and Health Manager, Lisa Moyle as Accounting Manager.
