Wohlsen Earns Two Awards for Comcast Project

Posted in: Awards on December 3, 2019

Wohlsen Construction recently received two Excellence in Construction awards for their hard work on a new regional Comcast facility in Newark, DE.

The Newark Center project involved gutting, modernizing, and bringing the 154,000 sq. ft. facility up to current code while remediating unforeseen issues within the existing shell and structure. With a short eight-month construction timeline, a phased occupancy approach was implemented to ensure the project was completed per the client’s schedule. The phased occupancy required that the work be completed with additional safety measures in place. Safety as always, is Wohlsen’s number one priority, but is even more critical when areas of the building are occupied.

The client’s commitment to sustainability was realized early in the project. As a result, Wohlsen was able to recycle 130 tons of construction waste as part of gutting the existing space. Environmentally sustainable materials and high-efficiency systems were incorporated throughout the design, while maintaining the project budget. There are several hydroponic “living green walls” and other biophilic design elements that dampen noise and filter the air while helping to reduce stress and keep employees connected to the natural environment.

Wohlsen is proud to have been recognized by Associated Builders and Contractors of Delaware as well as Delaware Contractors Association with Excellence in Construction Awards as a result of their hard work and dedication to this project. Most of all they are proud to have achieved Comcast’s main goal of best servicing their customers by careful planning throughout the entire construction process and delivering a high-quality finished product.
