Wohlsen to Complete Boutique Hotel Adaptive Reuse Project – The Study at Johns Hopkins

Posted in: News on June 30, 2021

Wohlsen Construction has partnered with Hospitality 3, LLC, to transform the existing Blackstone Apartment Building into a new, modern boutique hotel located on Johns Hopkins University campus in Baltimore, MD.  An adaptive reuse project, The Study at Johns Hopkins, a 10-story high-rise boutique hotel, brings much-needed hotel space to the campus and offers amenities that include a restaurant, meeting rooms, and conference spaces.

Wohlsen has completed preconstruction services for The Study and is amid construction for the project with a targeted completion date set for Spring 2022.  Part of the design plan was to bridge the university campus with the surrounding community while providing a space that accommodates visitors to the city, campus, and community. Instrumental elements of the transformation include construction of the following: a new entrance canopy, landscaping, and hardscaping to provide a welcoming arrival experience; large portions of existing slab on the first and second floor to be removed, creating a double-height space over the restaurant and hotel “Living Room”; and new openings in the existing exterior wall and structural frame to incorporate lower levels of north and west façade, allowing more transparency between designated interior spaces.

Wohlsen is very excited about this opportunity and to be part of the transformation of a unique and modern adaptive reuse project.
