In 1890, Wohlsen Construction began as a hands-on, in-the-field builder. Much has changed since our humble beginnings, but our willingness to get our boots dirty and our appreciation for quality craftsmanship has not.

Wohlsen’s self-perform team’s dedication to quality and craftsmanship will provide you with access to some of the best craftsmen in the industry. Many of our craft professionals have been both regionally and nationally recognized for their skill on an individual and project level.

Regional Craft Championships

Dozens of our craftsmen have competed and placed in the regional Associated Builders and Contractor’s (ABC) craft championship, which consists of a written test as well as a hands-on competition.

After placing first locally, winners then continue to the national level, where, since 2011, a Wohlsen craftsmen has taken home top honors in their division four times.  Additionally, in 2014, Wohlsen’s competitor took home the National Craft Competition Safety Award in the Carpentry Division.

Regional Craft Professional of the Year

Wohlsen carpenter Larry Woodfin received the first-ever Keystone ABC Craft Professional of the Year in Carpentry award in 2017. In 2018, this award was given to Wohlsen carpenter, Phil Garrett. In 2020, this award was given to yet another Wohlsen carpenter, Mark Rineer. The competition distinguishes winners based on their mastery of skills, safety performance, job site performance, productivity, and leadership. We are extremely proud of these individuals for winning the Keystone ABC Craft Professional of the Year in Carpentry award three times in the last four years.

National Craft Professional

Additionally, ABC selected one of our third generation master carpenters as the National Craft Professional of the Year for ABC’s Region 7.  The award recognizes individuals who stand out as the best of the best in merit shop construction.  The recipients excel in their field, maintain a lifelong commitment to training, and believe in the merit shop philosophy.

Our craftsmen’s work has been recognized nearly 40 times with Craftsmanship Awards from the former Mid Atlantic BX and over 290Excellence in Construction awards from national and regional ABC Chapters, the Delaware Contractor’s Association, and ENR.
