Project Description

Renovation of existing museum and restoration of adjacent building, both on the National Register of Historic Places, included:

  • New lobby with three-story atrium
  • New enclosed sky bridge linking the buildings
  • Dramatic 250-seat auditorium with stage
  • Education Center
  • Enlarged research library with new reading room
  • 60% increase in museum space, including five new galleries
  • Major structural repairs
  • Replaced mechanical, electrical, and sprinkler systems
  • Expanded collections storage
  • Preservation of two large murals
  • Restoration of four fireplaces
  • New museum shop
  • Administrative offices
  • Restoration of colonial revival façade
