Franklin & Marshall College – Weis College House

project description

Construction of a one-story addition to the Weis Residential Hall and renovations to adjacent areas in a residential building that was occupied on both sides and above the construction area and located on an busy college campus included:
  • Seminar room
  • Living room with custom fireplace and library
  • Multipurpose meeting room with acoustical millwork feature wall
  • Residential kitchen
  • Administrative offices
  • Extensive brick, bluestone, and granite paving and hardscaping in courtyard area
  • High end finishes including maple and anigre paneling, bluestone flooring, and acoustical millwork feature wall
  • Significant structural challenges to keep existing building structure and facade supported during demolition and construction of new addition structure
Sustainable building features included:
  • Vegetated roof system allowing for a decrease in storm water run-off, and preventing heat gain during summer
  • Large expanses of curtainwall and skylights for natural daylighting to reduce energy consumption for lighting
  • Energy recovery units in HVAC system
